Summary:
Male blackbirds are jet black in colour with a bright yellow bill and a yellow ring around the eye. Females are a duller brown colour with faint dark spotting on the underparts and a browner bill and no yellow ring around the eye. In both sexes the legs and feet are similar in colour to the plumage.
Ecology:
The blackbird has spread into towns from its original home in woodland. It still mainly nests in trees, building a cup shaped nest. It feeds on invertebrates such as insects and also wild fruits.
