Summary:
The male Goosander can easily be identified by its white plumage and greenish black head. These ducks are a bit larger than the Mallard and have along beak pointing downwards at the tip. The females are rather uniformly coloured with greyish plumage and a brown head.
Ecology:
The Goosander can be found near lakes inland or near the sea. They are very sociable and often breed in colonies. The nest is a hole built in trees, rocks or buildings and is covered with plant material. It is often built near water. Goosanders dive for their prey and catch it with their serrated bill. They fed on fish.
