Summary:
The Jackdaw is the smallest of the British Isles crow species. It has black plumage apart from the black of the head and nape of the neck which is a grey colour. Its light coloured eyes stand out against its black face. It has a short bill compared to the Carrion Crow.
Ecology:
Jackdaws are very gregarious birds that flock together into large groups. They pair-bond for life and build loose nests in trees and crevices in old buildings. Jackdaws steal eggs and young from the nests of other birds, but mostly feed on a wide variety of seeds and invertebrates and carrion.
Habitat:
Farmland, open woodland
Distribution:
Throughout the British Isles except the far north.
