Summary:
The Moorhen is a distinctive waterbird. It has bright red crown plate extending to the bill which has a yellow tip. The back and wings are olive-brown in colour and the head and underparts are dark blue-grey, a thin white line separates the two colours on its flanks. The feet are large and yellowy green.
Ecology:
The Moorhen is found near both still and running water, and breeds in thick cover at its margins. It feeds on aquatic invertebrates, plant material and seeds.
