Summary:
The male Pochard can easily be identified with its cinnamon, pear-shaped head, its black breast and light grey body. The female is plain brown in colour.
Ecology:
The Pochard is a typical diving duck which can predominately be found near large lakes or ponds, where they breed in shore vegetation. It builds its nest on the ground in shore regions of lakes and ponds. The duck plunges completely in the water during foraging.
Habitat:
Freshwater lakes and ponds. Feeds on plants, mussels and insects.
Distribution:
Residents mainly in the south, all areas in winter
