Summary:
The Wigeon is an attractive medium sized duck. The male has a distinctive golden forehead. Below this the head and neck are evenly brown, the breast is a lighter brown colour. The body is generally grey with black patches and flecks, and the tail is black and short. A large white patch is present on the inner wing and can be seen in flight. The female colouration is less contrasting and generally brown with white flecking.
Ecology:
Although some Wigeon are resident all year round it is more common as a winter visitor. It feeds on invertebrates, aquatic vegetation and grass.
